Virginia Beach World Class Tuna Fishing

I'm sure most on the east coast have heard about the unbelievable Tuna fishing happening between the Norfolk Canyon and the Cigar out of Virginia Beach. Limits of fish for ALL boats going out by 9AM is the norm. bites of 60 - 70 plus with landing 40 or more fish is happening every day out there. The go to bait has been spreader bars, probably because of the unreal amount of Squid that is currently hanging out in our waters. Depths have been from 50fathoms out to 500 fathoms...water temps from 65 - 73 degrees...

I don't know how long this one will last. I've been able to get two trips out in the last couple of weeks and both trips was total mayhem....full fish boxes and lots of meat...there are some decent Mahi in the mix as well. Friend of mine had a Blue Marlin hookup on the fingers but did not land him last week. I'm sure there are BlueFin in the area also but nobody is fishing for them right now...also reports of a couple of Big-eye by the Canyon 200 fathoms...

Get out there and get it while it's hot !!!....Bob

For sure Bob...I've been out twice and each trip was awesome. Just crazy fishing...we were long overdue for a "good" bite but this is ridiculous...

I'm going to try and get out this weekend as well. I'd go tomorrow but I have to head to Chicago early Thurs morning for some meetings.

    Good luck when you go.

Bob, Took me a little longer to get my limit....didn't get my limit until 11:30 am.....I'm a little slow because I forgot what a tuna looks like.

I'm looking at going again Saturday. Tried to slip out of work for Wed but all stacked up right now.

Nice post. Thanks for the video and pics. Fish Dad, is that a 29' Hydra sport you are fishing on? My brother just bought one. What do you think, how does it fish? Ride?

Yes, I have a 2006 Hydrasports 2900VX that I bought new in Feb 06. I fish the hell out of it, inshore and offshore including overnighters. Boat is very fishable. Ride is better than most OB boats in this size range but as with most OB boats, certain head seas can beat you up. I switched over to 4 blade props and improved the ride some. Couple of little design things I would have done differently but the price point for this boat compared to others of this size/features is considerably lower. I am nervous that Genmar (owns Hydrasports) declared bankruptcy so hopefully Hydrasports will survive the restructuring. But there are just too many brands out there and some will fall aside from the economic conditions.

Hey Fishdad, great video and thanks for sharing.

Do you know where I can get some of those patches that go behind the ear like dwight was wearing? My wife occasionally goes out, but she spends most of the time sleeping b/c the pills knock her out - even the non-drowsy.

    Thanks.

Its a dramamine patch which I think is prescription. I don't have any experience with them as I don't get seasick (unless I smell vomit). Dwight's problem was he didn't put it on until after he got seasick so he suffered until morning.
