A LOT of boats are still using J hooks for marlin when outside of tournements. And unless the person hooking them is a complete IDIOT then half the fish are NOT dead. J-Hooks do not gut hook half the fish... and never have...

It sounds like johnk 1040 has some hurt feelings!.............

When I saw the pictures it looked like a great day of fun. Wish I was there!!!!!!!!!!!!

If (BIG IF) they were using J hooks, who cares?............. Just go fishing and stop sounding like a cry-baby.

Get in your pick-up truck, drive down to VB and ride along with someone. That is a great group of fishing folk in VB.

Talked to Steve on the phone about an hour ago, they fished today and caught ten.

He broke his old record of 27 yesterday, catching 41. He said there were over 400 whites caught yesterday, amazing.

Who was the rocket scientist that said they were on the verge of being endangered a couple of years ago ???? they must have been sampling in the wrong place !!

My mate fished out of Rudee yesterday on a private boat, using circle hooks they were 18 for 25, not too shabby in my book.

One in every crowd. I am no damn White Marlin expert...don't really care either but we had a great bite last Friday and hooked 15 and caught 10. J-HOOKS!! Know how many were in the gut, ZERO...I know how to hook a fucking fish and so did the rest on the boat.

Exactly... who cares if they were usualing J hooks, circle hooks, or whatever... Whoever thinks that 1/2 fish caught on J hooks are gut hooked is an idiot and hasnt hooked many fish... and if they have... is an idiot... WHO CARES!

Pretty work , I fished with Steve and his mate Cam yesterday , We went 10 for 17 . Marlins don't stand a chance with those two in the fleet. Not many fish get past them . The few we jumped off I was holding the rod! Learned alot watchin Capt. Steve hook fish from his bridge pole.Great Day.

John, we used circle hooks most of the day, but ran out of rigs. Sorry about that. By the way, 6 girls that have never been offshore caught those fish.

Glad to here that Mark, like I said its just my opinion. Seems like the fish have come back because of longliners having to use circle hooks and most of the pros I know use them. There easier to hook fish and they NEVER cause any damage. I just want to see it stay like this so my son can see fishing like this.He caught his first one this year hes 10. It has been the best I have seen in 30 yrs of fishing the last 5 yrs.
