Often the channels you hear boats say go to the other one if you know what I mean. I think we have talked to them on occasion on 11 on the regular channels if I am correct but it has been a few years since I fished behind one and quite possibly unless you know the scallopers they may not want to share much information as I have seen so many boats block their way when dragging and this would not make me real happy if I was out their trying to make a living. Some will help as you know and some flat out speak to each other in a language most of us will never understand no matter what channel they are on.

all boats monitor 16, the trick is do they wana answer you. i would bring, money, wawa coffee, some fresh italian hogies. mabe some beer, depends on the boat, and captain. that would get my attention, or if there are tuna there mabe they would trade you for a couple hooks and some leader. and there are other boats that will have big signs... guts for sale. you don't know till you go. good luck
I may be able to help you with this one. I will talk to my brother a little bit. He has a scallop boat. I am not sure if he fishes out of SJ or not I think he usually fishes farther north than that. He is only a day scalloper though so having his contact info may not be of much help. I don't think that they get too far offshore. I know a couple of the unlimited permit holders but they are kinda tough and don't know if they will give out any good information.
