    VA VB Overnighter Report

headed to the sliver of warm water sat late morning with randy, jacob and chis on the Lucky Strike out of lynnhaven in search of a tuna before overnighting for swords. got a calll back as we passed the fleet int he afternoon on the way out of the location of the water. headed DEEP!!! 750 030 line 1000 fath. found 74+ deg water and a hard edge and worked for a while going 2/3 onthe mahi. started trolling back west to get ready for the evening sword bite when i turned to Randy and said, " i'm going to grab my sandwinch and we are going to get covered up. well, i didn't even finish the sub and threw it over as we we 3 miles inside of the warmm water in 65.5 deg, about to pull the lines @6pm and all hell broke loose. 45-65# tunas jumped out the water hitting all six lines. the four of us were on a tred barta style chineese fire drill. fighting fish from the grion with no belts and reeling lines tight from the gunnel at the same time passingrods under and around lines. Chris is on the big fish that almost spools us. get three in and, finally one pulls the hook with less than 50yrds of line left. ok. so w/ 4 on the boat get 5/6 yft. boy was that fun. so we pick up and run back in and set up for swords. longliners were out there, but not even a nibble all night. were all tired and coolers are full with no more room for tuna so we head inshore. hit the gull hustler and get 12 +- nice bsb 2-4# and call it a day. all in all a great reconiscence trip for may with very little water out there. the warm water was less than a 1/5 mile wide with mixed water (65+-) about 4 miles inside of it then going to 57-61 deg before hitting the warm bay water of 65+ outside the tower. the tunas were full of boston mackerel or similar mackerel.
