Slugged our way out toward the Norfolk yesterday with Capt. Trax on Oblivion. White bite was on fire and we ended up going 10 for 15 on fish we hooked. We saw a lot more than that...some were in the spread some were not (around bait balls or free swimming). I know of 3 other boats that had more than 10 and one other that was close to 20 (and only had fished for like 5 hours...they were staying overnight so lord knows how many they will get).
Awesome crew...awesome bite. A lot of teaser bait and switch fishing but we did get one on a 12" mullet meant for a Blue. We also pulled off a small blue in the afternoon...probably 150 pounds I'd say.
For some reason, I clicked on a thread here that showed how to dump a bait and how to position the rod and how to set the hook...well, it worked. I was able to drop back to fish that were cruising, feel them pick it up and hook them (J hooks). This is something I normally suck at so thanks to SF.com for the tips!
Great fishing with you yesterday Glenn....That was textbook White Marlin fishing....coming in hot on the teasers and baiting off to the dinks.....everybody was working well together and was Gladd Trax got to get on the rod a couple times......simply great day.....Bob
Thanks guys...this was a crew of mainly meat fisherman so it was very cool to get in the groove. We had a stretch where we hooked like 6 in a row that we got into the spread. Later in the day, we missed 2 or 3 real hot fish but we were more than happy with the results!
We saw fish from 50-100f. Some guys saw them in 40f in 68-69 degree water. We never went much past the 100f line if I recall. I was not up on the bridge much. Water was 73-74 degrees where we fished. A lot of Shearwaters
