I've heard of guys using straw at the crimp of the hook where the straw is above the rig and then sliding the straw over the bill of the live hoo. I've never seen it done nor thought is was necessary. I fish about 3 live hoos once in my life at the keys tht we caught on gold hook. I tried live lining them for a little but but the didn't last long. They either died to soon or got hammered by cooda's coming off the wreck. I actually thought about rigging them with wait to drop down to wreck but just never did it. We had other baits that swam naturally to the wreck and then suddenly head back up top and then get hammered by an amberjack or cooda.

I wonder if that straw idea would be a quick and easy way for a fast drop back on a dead hoo for trolling. I don't think i'm interested in trying for say but more curious. Just may have ot try it for giggles!
