    Underwater cameras

Anyone have an underwater camera that's worth a damn, that does not cost a ton. I'm not going to use it a a lot, mostly snorkeling and water activities with the kids. If I'm going to spend the money I want to get something that takes good pictures.
    Thanks Tim

Look at the HERO cams. Around $300 and work great!

GO PRO Hero all the way; they are tiny, you can mount it anywhere on the boat and with the fish eye wide angle lense capture all the action. They also have a bar mount where you can mount it right to your gaff and get the underwater kill shot. Here is a video we made with the go pro out of OI in Oct.

Have you looked into a housing for the camera you already have? I have one for my point and shoot and it works better than my Go pro for picture taking(video its the opposite) it allows more user defined details like zoom.

here is where i got my housing from

    Thanks Guys
I appreciate all the input, those go pros are killer. I wish they were better at taking stills but the video is very good. They are definitely on the must have list.

I think I'm going to research a housing for our cam we already have as that maybe a better option, I'm just leery of putting an expensive camera in one and having water damage. But it seems to be the best option besides spending a fortune on a really good underwater camera.
    Thank You all

I have been wanting to be able to take some underwater pictures too. From what I understand it's not only the housing but you need a pretty good flash system if your going to be in salt water.

Ouch!!! Just looked at the housing for my Nikon D60 $1,400.00.

Guess I will be getting a waterproof PHD (push here dummy) camera for the H2O

I've had a sanyo xacti camera for a few years - about $200.00 - it takes decent stills and great vids. The camera is waterprof to 1 atmosphere.

We have used it for snorkeling - no housing required - it takes really nice underwater video...
