    Under water lights - opinions

Hey gang a friend is building out a sweet sportfish up north here. I have used Hydroglow with success but the newer generations of through hull UW lights are very interesting to say the least. I don't have any first hand knowledge and thought it best to reach out get opinions, suggestions, etc.

Thanks in advance and Happy New Year

    Vin

    Thanks guys.
Any preference on color or type halogen vs zenon vs ?????

Second thoughts ae down vs back

On the hydroglow and I'm not picking on them but if I run it off the rigger I find myself looking at it all the time and losing my night vision. My thoughts we strong facing down with weaker facing back.

Any and all input is welcome

    Thanks again

I've done a LOT of research on these and if you're looking for ones to install in the transom or the hull of the boat....here's the best hands down...BUT they are NOT cheap...... I haven't been able to justify a set yet.

I also did a lot of research. The one thing in common is that the cost is higher than a cat's ass for anything worth a darn. Honestly don't know why a light mounted in a simple thru hull is so expensive but heck I don't have to make 'em.

An alternative which I am going to try is the Hurley light. It's very cool. It mounts on the trim tabs. Two halogen lights per tab. Price is way decent when compared to four lights from anyone else. They mount easy. There is no need to put another thru hull on the boat.

And. what I like best of all is that they are adjustable. You can point them with your trim tabs. You can point one set up the other down...whatever.

I'm sure I'll find plenty of uses once I have them but most of all I am looking forward to having them for night diving.

Does anyone know what kind of light is on the "Runoff"? Whatever it is I like it. That thing will wake up King Neptune. Maybe Box or Biscuit might know what kind of light it is.

We had Intensity 4" 120/220 VAC 150 watt metal halide lights with strobes installed on the 48 Cavileer this past spring. As of April, they were the only brand I could find with a strobe option which is suppose to simulate the 'flashing' of a ball of baitfish when it turns while trolling and is very cool at the dock. They were also priced competitively. Some of you may have seen them strobbin away on B-dock this past summer at Sunset.

My installer said that they were actually easier to hook up then some of the other brands. One single cable. They also offer a unique underwater camera which has infrared no light visibility. Again pretty cool.

If anyone is interested I can provide more info and discounted pricing.

Those boys had the strobes kickin especially around last call. Probably the neatest looking lights I have ever seen. Those boys do know how to have a good time. Nimrod, we were 5 slips up from you, Lady J.

Thanks and welcome to SFC Fishthebite! We do like to have a good time and even catch a fish every once and a while. Enjoyed hanging out with the Lady J crew this summer. Sure do miss B-dock.

The lights are very cool. The brights are AC and the strobes are DC. I'm looking at installing them on the Hatt and may consider a set for the 53 Cavileer if they keep it.

I think I saw Lady J a couple of piers over from us at BBM. We are on board at least 1 day most weekends during the winter. Stop by for a cold draft out of the bait freezer/kegerator.
