    U.S. Airlines and Fishing Rods

Has anybody ever traveled with US Air with fishing rods, is there a fee for traveling with rods?

Yes there is, since they just changed their baggage policy I'm not sure what they are charging now. Check their website, the baggage policy is in there.

I have straped 4 rods together and carried them on the plane many times. Used velcro straps. Note: wait and put the rods in the over head until last, that way they won't get crushedd.

I have a Flambeau telescopic rod tube and I use it all the time flying with US Air. I've only been charged the regular luggage fee, nothing extra. If you're flying first class, the rod tube counts as regular luggage in your two allowed checked bags. Mine was $60 at Bass Pro Shops.

By the way after I put all the rods in the tube, I stuff shirts and socks in the tube as well to work as a cushion for the rods. I usually have my tube completely loaded with stuff all the way to the rim and it has yet to go over the 50lb. limit. This saves a ton of space and can cut down on another bag.

They are adding extra fees this December I believe?

As long as the rod tube is under 6' you should have no problems. I have taken pvc tubes on different occasions and never had a problem or to pay anything

I have the rod tube anthony. I will bring it to abuelas on thanksgiving.

PM shoefish on the board. I have seen him get on a plane with just a bare rod. I had no idea you could do that. He could also tell you what type of rods to take since he was in Holbox last year.

Ah, Tulum...I was there in Feb...bring an ultralight for sure. There are some great skinny water spots down there. There is also some good snapper jigging on the reefs too.

If you have a 2 piece you can carry it on without anything.
