We handled a 120lb yellowfin on our tyrnos. We had out 4 tiagra 50's and it hit the tyrnos. It did its job.

Like everyone has said, the Tyrnos is no comparison to the TLD's. Larger gears (TONS more pulling power), better drags, aluminum frame, and a MUCH better handle. I bought the Tyrnos 30II's (the 2 speed versions) this year and have absolutely LOVED them. Put them on Tallus 20-40lb. stand up rods and they absolutely whooped dolphins, wahoos, and yellowfins this spring and summer. Over the past few months while in the stream, when dolphins would bite, we'd simply push the drag to full, put them in low gear, leave the rod in the rod holder and crank them in. Zero effort and you had 15-20lb dolphins skipping across the surface. It is VERY impressive! (By the way, I have mine spooled with 500 yards of 80lb. Power Pro with an 80lb. mono topshot.)
The 2 speed versions also have an option to buy the "Tiagra style handle" (the large molded "rubber" handle). This handle installs very easily by taking out only 4 screws. I also bought these handles for mine and have loved them even more since. I'll try to take pictures of them with the new handles if anyone is interested. (You can order them from Shimano--I can find out a price, again if anyone is interested.)
Overall they are a VERY solid reel and will have no problems handling any yellowfin you put them against and most bluefins you encounter. I'd feel very comfortable using them on bluefins up to 200+ lbs. but that's just me.

How about the 2-speeds are they as good as the TLDs?
captcl,
To me they are a LOT better! High speed on them is 5.0:1 with a low of 2.0:1. The reels have much bigger gears than the TLD's and provide more power eventhough you have a faster retrieve. (Shimano pioneered this process in their freshwater reels with what they call HEG or High Efficiency Gearing. This gives a fast retrieve without losing any power. In the past one would have to give up one to get the other. i.e. Give up a fast retrieve in order to get fish moving power or vice versa.) Even with the 5.0:1, there is plenty of power to move dolphin, tuna, or wahoos. Only time I've gone to low gear so far is when we didn't take the rod out of the rod holder since we didn't want to fight another dolphin. Just put it in low, full drag and crank. Very little effort what so ever need to skip a 15lb. dolphin.
By the way, don't know if anyone has seen them or not but there is a new Tyrnos 12 and 16 single speed and TWO SPEED as well!

I have the single speed 30's I did a canyon trip and landed 8 yellowfins from 90-125 w/ no problem they are great, no complaints
Thanks for all the help. I think i may have to invest in some of the tyrnos. I have some tld's but from what i hear these reels seem to impress everyone.
Yup, I go along with the crowd--excellent reels for the price. I regularly use the 30 for yellow & bluefin in the 40 - 100 lb class and no problems thus far, though I do agree about the button. One other thing--they're pretty darn light for their size, and are wonderful for stand-up and young or female anglers who may have a tough time wrestling w/ heavy rigs.
