Well the northwest arrived as promised... My group that I was supposed to have today will be going tomorrow as they didn't get in til too late last night. I had a fill in group and with the late start too late to get bait it was gonna be a bumpy trolling trip.
It felt good not to be sweating and the edge had a different shaped lump to it than the last few weeks. Flyers got up in 90' and thats where i started. In and out up and down I hammered it. We had a king pile on a trolled on which was odd but the ten pound torpedo was better than nothing. I tried down near a spot I had raised fish with fast water and one came in all heated up. It was all over the flats and was undecided for a bit before commiting to the right side. I felt naked without my bird in that spot but its still swimming behind a mahi from the other day...
It ate and my client Rob went to set up... Forgot to put the reel in gear though so we had just a tiny mess. The string came tight and it popped as expected. I got the spread reset and that outfit straightened up. Suddenly a cloud of purple raised and there were fish all over the place. I'm not sure what happened exactly but we went 0 for maybe a zillion...![]()
Reset again and bingo. Theres a single. Rob did fine and bowed the fish up clean. Of course it has to go side sea so I got to back in the trough until the leader was in hand. Fifteen minutes later another piled in. Robs buddy, Chris was looking a touch green and had me bow up the fish. It was all he could do to work it boat side without getting sick. I got the leader and was ready to reset but they had enough. So it wwas "W" on the compass and an easy morn.
