Or something like that... I think...
I had an old friend who I used to take out a lot shout at me recently. He was a great charter client and though he knew I've at least for now gone the private route he's stayed in touch. I've felt bad not taking him for a while and to make it worse his son has grown big enough to give the blue water a go.
I am under orders to run our boats frequently so they stay happy and functional. The time was comming where the 31 needed a run per schedule so I told him to bring it on. He was over the top tickled and the date was set for today...
Recently I found a new custom circle hook design that when I saw it the world became a better place for my precious combos that have effectively been benched from tournament play by the circle rule. Its not saying that I havn't been able to come up with something that "kinda" worked once in a while but it was far from consistent... I now had a fist full of these new gems to try and see if my eyeball guess was as good as hoped.
We slid out through our relentless heat to a greasy sea. It wasn't long before complaints of the heat were being tossed out by the youngins. I flipped the switch to the wash down hose and kept that in check. At 400' a small rip and scattered grass formed. Here came the grass hoppers. Small dolphin raced for the spread... One side J and the other side the new Circle... Down went all six. One of the Js stood up quick but the other five undersized ones were quickly tamed and released. The new hook was showing a lot of promise... We pulled another quad off the same line and again no misses for my now new favorite hook...
The line ended and I had slid up north. They wanted action not meat. I wanted to put the hook to the test... Naked had produced and now I upped the game to combo... I slid to the edge and the machine showed color. Looking back the ocean opened up. Six down and screamin with our summer slob class bone heads (little tunny / false albacore/ bonitos) . Again the new hook did great... Then we got to see another "bonus" with it. I only had three anglers but six lines down. That meant three went un attended. The J rigs that weren't worked gave up the ghost and came un done. Not all the time but maybe three times during the course of the day. We missed two each on J and Circle on the bite during the day but once hooked the circles stayed stuck in all of em.
The pace was brutal... Catch five or six... reload... swing back and do it again... Wasn't long before the boys were toast and the bait supply exhausted... Missions had both been accomplished. Wear them out and put that hook to the test... Both done to a tee...![]()
