I was fortunate enough to get my guys onto some big fish this past 2 weeks, on very light gear.
The first fish was taken on a YO-Zuri sardine jig, G Loomis 8.5 jig stick, Diawa Saltiga 50 with 60 pound braid and 80 pound florocarbon. Fish was fought with gunnell lever only, no gimbal on rod with a very long butt section for 3 plus hours, 2 plus at color. Taped out at 77 inches and 285 pounds in the round.
Second fish was landed on even smaller spinning gear, a homemade custom Smith popping rod and Stella 8K with 65 pound suffix and 100 pound shock leader, caught on a Sea Rock BIG popper. Fight time was only 30 minutes as fish got tail wrapped and I got a nice early gaff shot the first time it popped up, taped at 75 inches and weighed in at 238 gutted.
