I joined the MSSA and got in their 17th Annual Tunament this weekend. NOt sure how we faired since it was a 3-port tournament and results have not yet been finalized. But the Fishing was decent and the ride to the Washington SUCKED EGGS ALL THREE DAYS.
Day 1 - Caught a bunch of Yellowfins with Oftenn Ernie, Absolutely Allen and Bitemysister Mike. Great group of guys to fish with. The pick was steady but the class of fish wasn't what we needed. Worked our way south and managed a nice gaffer and a small yft so we started working back up the line. Squidvicious was the ticket today. Decided to pick em up and haul ass back to the washington for the final few minutes. Got to the washington with 10 minutes left and the first bar to hit the water gets rocked by a 74lb yellowfin. Spirits were high as we made it back to weighin with a decent stringer and a big fish to weigh.
Saturday - Got a taste of humble pie when we watched some of the other guys get crushed time and again. Finally it was our turn and we manged a few small fish. Aluminum Plugs were the ticket on Sat.
Sunday - I got frustrated on Sat so I brought out the big guns for the final day. It is great to know that we can count on the ringers in the 11th hour. Our Anglers were 12 yr old Nicholas and 12 yr old Rachel. Now mind you were are in 3rd or 4th place at this point. But the ringers were ready for action. After a fruitless attempt at a Bluefin we pushed offshore back to the yft hole and found ourselves covered up in big yellowfins. had a quadruple knockdown. the first fish pulled off the Rasta Bar, The 2nd fish stuck to the Squidvicious bar and the third fish stuck to the chartruese Daisy chain. I did my best Sally impersonation at the wire as the 74lber kicked my ass. Finally went back to the wheel where I belong and let Dove hunt Wire the fish. The second fish seemed a bit easier but ended up tipping the scale at 80lbs. We went back to putting the spread out when I noticed that we had a 4th fish about to spool us. We backed down on the fish and it turned out to be a foul hooked Fish pulled off at the boat.
All in all a good tournament - Don't know the results but I will post once I hear.
