Fishing report from 2 coolfishing forum,www.panamasportfishinglodge.com
Having booked our trip months ago with PSFL, we were eager to get to the lodge to thrash the water with poppers and see if we could land a few yellow fins. First let me say the owner of PSFL, John De la Cruz, runs an outstanding operation. No detail was overlooked. His staff was top notch and the meals were incredible. The fishing guides worked their tails off and were very focused on putting the customer on the fish.
The fishing for the most part was very good. We were mainly targeting Marlin and Yellow Fins. The Marlin fishing was a little slow. We had two hits with no hook ups. It just wasn't meant to be! The Tuna fishing was very good. We managed to land some chunky YFs that were pretty tough on light tackle. It was a blast to run up on the diving birds and chunk poppers at the tuna that were feeding on sardines. It was pretty sporting wrestling with a large tuna on a Stella reel and light rod. We also caught Mahi on poppers up to 20 lbs or so. We did very little bottom fishing but we did manage to drop some bonito chunks and catch pargo and grouper. We probably could have loaded the boat up with bottom fish but we were mainly after Marlin and Tuna. The guys want to plan another trip down there. Had a great time and I can't wait to go back!
