    trolling speed??

How many knots would you go to troll for tuna and dolphin, and does it matter to the sea conditions. I am new to this game and are looking for any suggestions. Thank you.

6 kts for tuna. Keep in mind that tuna can swim 50 mph. So a faster troll is ok too.
So long and thanks for all the fish!

Sea conditions and choice of bait/lures, and the sweet spot that is particular to your boat all come into play.

In general, when trolling ballyhoo 6-7 knots is the perfered speed, but you have to adjust to keep the baits from spening too much time tumbling out of the water and drifting with the wind. Trial and error is the only way to fine tune , and obviously on a calm day it is easier.

Trolling lures such as Green Machines, Jet Heads and Cedar Plugs you can go anywhere from bait speed up to 12 or more knots. Generaly about 8 is good, but again, the saes conditions, and wake/clean water patterns your boat makes dictate the ideal speeds your need.

    Good luck

You will learn the "right" speed for you baits by watching them. Too fast and they will be bouncing all over. Too slow and no action. Keep trying until you find the sweet spot! 6.5-7.5 is a good place to start.
