    trolling at night

up in the canyons off new jersey, crews usually set a swordfish line while on the chunk at night. i was thinking maybe try that for half the night and for the other half try something different.

using a downrigger, slowly troll a glow in the dark moldcraft. i think this would be a good way to catch swords at night and maybe even some bigeyes if they are around. maybe some big yellowfins too.

    what do you think?

for swords i think chunking works the best....with the canyon glow stick on the line...they make all kinds of stuff for trolling at night but i have done reaally good chunking at night.....it was most people do b/c the captain usually tries and gets some sleep

Trolling at night does work but it is very hard to troll the edge durring a nice night due to all the boats that are anchored up and you must also keep in mind that some lobster gear does not have reflectors on them so your radar may not pick them up.

If you try trolling in the deep you must also make sure that no longline gear is in the area because they also have balls without reflectors. You may also snag the longline gear with your downrigger ball.
