When a slob hits the scale it doesn't diminish my adrenaline a bit... It turns up the motivation. Perfect example was mako mania a few years ago. Most fish on the board were close to each other except a pig of nearly twice the size. My crew was getting into that funk. I took them over to the fish and gave them a pep talk...
"See that! Thats what we gotta beat and we will. You know what it looks like now so lets do better."
I kinda got a kick out of the faces of the crew who had caught it. "Yeah right...." They were already spending the money in their head.
Bottom line was the next morning we found our fish and trumped them by 20 pounds.
So no you can't give up just cause a slob is on the board... Don't worry about what others have, worry about what youre gonna get!

    Cool "Just one fish!!!!"

"It only takes one fish"! Those were the words spoken by Mrs Phat Mann with an hour to go in the MA500 right before we hooked and boated the winning WM of 92#'s. A tounament record as well with 40 minutes to go.

The next year, same tournament another 92#'er was caught for another last day victory,

The next year (last year)we were tied for second at end of day 4, day 5- the leader was withdrawn from competition, were now tied for first place, only 11 boats fishing on day 5, and "Topless" bags a last day 95 pounder.

Three yrs running- the winner is bagged on the last day!!

In tournament fishing- it ain't over till the lines in and all fish are caught!

Ps- heck yea when last year the 90+lb wm was caught in the wmo on day one a lot of folks loaded up and chased the big blue- day 2 when the 1000lb BM was weighed: there was a lot of "now what do you do's going on! Then you load up and listen to Mrs Phat Mann- "It only takes one fish!!"

Theres no room for being intimidated by whats hanging... My ol man was a director of nascar for years and as he always said. Not once in the history of nascar was a race won before the checkered flag dropped. Kudos for Mrs.P's positive attitude and I do wish her all the best...
