    Hey Guys,
My trolling rods currently are set up with 30 lb. mono with a uni to uni to 50 mono leader but I'm considering respooling this winter with 50 lb. Spider Wire.
My concern is how to attach a heavy, perhaps 50 lb. mono. to such a thin diameter line.
The Spider Wire is the same diameter as 12 or 15 lb. mono and I don't guess a uni to uni will work in this case.
Would a hollow core loop on the end of the Spider to go loop to loop be the answer?
Will hollow core even hold on such a small diameter line?
I want to go with the small diameter to get more depth trolling but maybe I should just stick with the 30 lb. mono (?).
    I would appreciate any input.

You can still use a loop to loop connection if you like, but I prefer a modified Albright knot. The connection is extremely small and very very strong. Just tie a double overhand knot in your braid and cinch it down slow and evenly so all the knot loops lay flat and do not over lap each other, then take your mono and pass it thru one side of the loop that you created with the overhand knot. Make five wraps up and around the loop, then pinch the line and loop with your fingers so the wraps won't slip and make five wraps back down and over the wraps you just made. When you get to the bottom of the loop pass the tag end of the mono out the loop the oposite direction that you entered the loop to start your wraps. Grab both the tag end of the mono and the standing line of mono and cinch them down while pulling the opposite direction with the braided loop, tightening both line till they are snugg. Then clip off the tag end of the mono right up against the knot. You will have a strong and slick knot that will roll thru your guides with no snagging or noise. I have been using this method for putting topshots on Dink rods for white marlin and sailfish for years with no problems. I also use this connection when making topshots for Amberjacks and big red drum.

You can also use a Surgeons knot, easier to tie and strong, use them all the time to join 20/65lb braid to mono leader, never had one slip or break yet, just make sure you use at least 3 overhand knots in loop esp in the lighter braids.
