    Too many tournaments in OC?

What do you guys think? It seems that every year there are more and more tournaments. I remember when it used to be the to 2 shark, the tuna, the WMO and a few OC marlin club events. It seems that there are so many tournaments now, that they may be competing against each other. I beleive there are 3 or 4 rockfish tournaments in OC now, wow. Maybe it's just the economy hurting the turnouts...

The people fishing the rockfish tournements are a different group usually then the offshore...

They def. do compete against one another... but... when there is money to be made... there will be an event... and all the major ones still do pretty well...

    Cool to many OC tourneys

Dropinback is correct, those of us that fish inshore/nearshore stuff are a different bunch. It is interesting to note in the latest issue of The Big Game Journal two articles specifically about fishing from the 30 in, not to metion the 3mi! My season "restartrs" at this time of year what with fewer boats at the ramp and inlet and all around. Saftey and close attention to the weather are paramount though especially with the onset of the cooler water/weather. Lots to fish for inside!

I am not sure about too many tournaments, but the one thing i can certainly say its that OC, especially Sunsets, is a great place to run out of.

I think its great that there are more and more tourneys. It gives people the opportunity to partake when they want to. The big events will never be diluted because of other events.

What this does is give offshore fishing more exposure which can only bring new participants into this great sport.

Sorry but thats like saying I fish to much. I like others make a living out of fishing and you only do what you can afford. I've been involved with many of the tournament organizers and most would like more. It beats sitting at the dock wanting something to do.

yes there are a lot tourneys, but there is a demand for them.

And i remember when there was a bluefish tournament, an overnight sword tournament, the original blue marlin tournament, the light tackle handicap, only 1 shark tournament, no tuna tournament, no ladies tournament (followed by the harbor island ladies invitational which lasted 7 or so years and then the brief ladies open which only lasted 1 year), 2 different chunking tournaments that both failed (- sorry i just hate chunking), the marina shootout had a good 14 year run-but then it died.........

So, I guess the answer is that there have always been alot of tourneys in OC. And if you really think we don't need them.... did you happen to notice the lack of pics in the CF the 2 tourney free weekends? I know the charter boats felt it a little bit- tourneys really are playing a huge part in the OC fishing economy and well being.

Oh, BTW, there is nothing carved in stone yet, but there will be the rebirth of a Bluefish tournament in May 2010. More to come later.....

    Thumbs up

Franky & Fish4Fun.......no doubt economy comes into play.......and a lot of the smaller tourneys are targeted by the guys who dont have the $$$ and know they cannot compete on the big tourney stage.....so i think some of the smaller tourneys do well as a result.....everybody wants to hit the jackpot....just some are willing and able to play more frequent and invest more.....

making a few $$$ and getting a trophy and being up on a stage no matter what the money invested and money paid out makes some peeps content and satisfied.....so i do think the smaller tourneys have a place......

but i am sure it is frustrating to put on a tourney with a small turnout......makes one wonder...why invest the time and energy
