    toms report 8/9-8/10

Fished the toms sat to sun on an overnighter. Lines in the water at about 2 in the afternoon and began the troll from about ten miles from the tip. Trolled to about 8 and the only thing to show for it was a huge WHITE marlin about 180 to 190 at least. Not one knock down at all from any tuna. Thru the night we had squid the entire night and u could catch all u wanted. We did not have one run off the entire night, not even a mahi showed up. The water temp was 78 and never really changed until u got inside in the flats.Water was very nice and clean with alot of bait and alot of sea life but just no tuna.Spent the morning trolling but had the same results as the day before nada, so we hit the pots that where loaded with dolphin and trigger fish, caught some fish for the pan and headed for the barn.

    12 dolphin (10-25 lbs)
    1 white marlin (180-190 lbs)
0 TUNA ( what happen to the yellowfin)

Thanks for the report, I've been having a tough time out there too.

Considering the world record is 181 lbs, you likely had a blue if he was that big. Any pics?

    Its a world record!

Kudos to you, you let the world record swim away.

The all tackle record, as recognized by the International Game Fish Association, is 181 lb 14 oz (82.50 kg).

justthecs, we were out there as well. I believe we may have spoken with each other...I was on Sea-Questered. You guys were the ones who tried tilefishing for a while, right? We ended up with a nice sword and two small yft (one on a squid jig and the other on a diamond jig) overnight. The troll was a bust for us. Nice work on the marlin and the mahi (wish we could've put a few of those in the box as well).

Slightly under 500 ft. We had drifted into the deep, so we had just re-positioned up on the flats in about 460 and were drifting for about 1/2 hr when we got the bite. Our drift had changed and I know I checked our depth after the sword and we still hadn't gone over the edge. It was a nice surprise, considering I hadn't heard reports of any swords taken this year so far (although I'm sure there have been some).

Also, bait (fresh dead squid) was down about 90'.
