Fishing a charter boat that take only 4 person and capt does have a mate on board

? Is how much to tip the Capt ???

do you tip the same as if their was mate on board 20 % ???

In capt website trips are listed as all inclusive charters

Use you're own discretion. If the Capt. is really hustling and doing his duties plus that of a mate, throw him some money. That's how it is for me. I often run 6 pack's without a mate since 8 ppl would be a crowd. I've gotten 20% before for my good work.

I would do what big jay said. Tip if he works for it, but if you do the work that the mate would have then you get to tip your self.

    What are you fishing for?

What he said. The trips I run are mostly done by myself. When I hustle and work really hard for the party, a tip is greatly appreciated. I also don't own the boat and get a percentage of the charter rate as a capt.

You would have to make that decision based on the experiance, if he earns it pay him....usually when we do that type of trip the less work the captain does...the better he usually makes out, we pride ourselves on being as involved as possible...when he takes the time to show us how he prefers it done and lets us be as involved as we want.

As far as i am concerned, it doesn't matter what you fish for. If he hustles his ASS OFF to put you on the fish, he deserves a tip.

Last year i ran a 36 hour trip by myself. My brother couldn't jump on as mate, and my father was tied up at work.

I was awake and ran the boat for 36 hours. They tipped me 30%, i was very grateful.

Over 50% of my charters are run by my self, wither it is polling you on the flats or chasing nearshore fish. I'm busting my butt the day before you get on the boat till after you get off. As bait rigger to boat washer, I do appreciate it when someone hands me a tip at the end of the day. There is very little money in what we do when everything is taken into consideration and a tip goes a long way to help out...
