I don't know where Mark is catching them, but I consistently catch them around Miami in 550-650' of water. Look for real soft mud bottom, you know you are there when your sinker sticks in the mud and you see it "pop" out on the rod tip. It also doesn't take long, shouldn't be more than a few minutes if you are in the right spot!

GEEEZ GRACELAND I AM STILLED IMPRESSED....MY WORD..........

I'm not going to say much more than that because, down here with tile fishermen, giving out depths is like giving out GPS numbers anywhere else. It just ain't done. Most Florida tile guys reckon that it took them hard work, time, fuel, money and trial & error before learning from all their mistakes and dialing in their success rate. Its viewed as sort of an intitiation.
My posting the "N dd mm.mmm / W dd mm.mmm" thing was just my tongue-in-cheek way of showing that depth info can be the same as lat/lon info for tilefishing.
Now one thing I can tell you is you need to learn how to make your own tile rigs. Use a three-hook chicken rig; anything more is a waste of time, hooks and bait. Use an eight-pound lead on the bottom and a three pound lead clipped to the snap swivel up top. THe idea of the two leads is that once it's down, it gets the rig HORIZONTAL to the seafloor, not vertical. Tileys will swim out of their burrow and snatch bait but they will never swim up.
When I get the chance, I'll make one of my Catch-All tile rigs, take a pic of it and post it on here so y'all can see what I'm talking about.

Sorry bro, I didn't realize it was so tight down there. I'd love to see your rig. I have always heard the term chicken rig, but never seen one. I never heard the bit about two leads either, but it makes sense.
How big are the goldens down there? Looks like about the size of a good blue line up this way.
Come on down in the summer when the weather is better Bud and we'll go see what we can find out in the deep. I have soome numbers for up your way too, between the Washington and the Poor Man's. There are supposed to be some real bruisers up that way.![]()
