Well the trip was to look for some tuna with Chuck and his Uncle in lawBarry, but with the fog we had today it was pointless to even try to see any busting fish. We trolled up some bluefish and set off to deep drop for Tile fish. Got to the spot and we were a little too deep as we didnt get any bites on the first drop. Made a move to get a little shallower and it was game on. we only fished one rod for a bit, then riged up one of my striper rods that had 65# specrtra with 30# mono backing. Chuck was dropping it down when he looks around and says somethings wrong here and locks it up. The reel starts screaming I thought nice!! its a tuna well right off my bow a Mako skies out and does a full flip then sounds. we fight this fish on a 15-30 striper rod and get him to the boat. At this point we all really cant believe he is still there. we take a look at him and make the choice to cut him off. We had plenty of meat in the cooler and didnt need anymore. Not to mention the sharks could really use a break. The best part was this was chucks first mako so now he has good karma on his side for the shark tournament coming up. On a side note this is a great way to fish for sharks. Deep drop for Tiles while sharking. Keeps people fishing and the boardem never sets in while drifting around aimlessly. If anyone is interested in a trip like this monday looks good for offshore. Call me at 609 846 5874. And if you dont know Tile fish taste like Lobster, and are a blast to catch!!! will have a few pics up when they get e-mailed to me.
