THE BITE TV Announces the Third Annual Miami Raft Invitational Tournament
Miami Beach, Fla. –May 8, 2007. The third annual Miami Raft Invitational Tournament will be held May 9th in the waters off Miami Beach. This is extreme offshore angling at its best, as 17 top-notch billfish captains will be set adrift on low-tech rafts to see who can catch the most sailfish. Triple and even quad hook ups are not uncommon, and anglers must battle sailfish while being dragged across the water.
All competing watercraft are non-motorized rafts made out of tractor tire inner tubes and frames of various designs. There is no limit as to how many rods can be fished, and live chumming is allowed. Support boats position the rafts according to the captain’s game plan. The northernmost raft is rotated to the southern end of the fleet every 15 minutes.
Last year, anglers caught 20 sailfish as well as black-fin tuna, cobia, kingfish and mahi-mahi. An inquisitive hammerhead shark and a couple of punctured inner tubes added to the excitement. Capt. Ray Rosher of Team Penn Reels won the event for the second time with four (4) sailfish tags and releases.
This year’s event will be filmed by THE BITE TV with hi-definition cameras and will include both spectacular underwater footage and overhead helicopter footage. THE BITE TV airs on SunSports every Tuesday at 10pm, Thursday at 1am, Sunday at 11pm and on The Sportsman’s Channel. The tournament is the brainchild of Capt. Matt Tambor and the producers of THE BITE TV.
THE BITE TV staff includes Capt. Tambor, Scott Shane, Peter Wolfson, Luis Bacardi and A.J. Willis. They are based out of Miami, Fla. and have traveled throughout the Caribbean, Central America and the Bahamas filming THE BITE TV.
