IRBA White marlin warm up:
FIRST CLASS GIG ! NEXT YEAR SHOULD EVEN BE BETTER!
I second your assesment BOX. Great time and a fun weekend. However next year I think that the tournament committee should re-write the rules. I would suggest two changes.
1. The 85 mile limit should be extended to at least 100 miles. It was a couple of long days that may have been made better if we could have gotten to some better water within a 100 mile radius.
2. There should be a release category. I think a lot of the boats gave up on billfishing and concetrated on tuna fishing to come up with the win. (Good tournament strategy, but I think that a billfish tournament should be won with a billfish catch.) If there was a release category I think that this would more likely be considered a billfish tourney with the billfish being the main target species rather than a tuna tourney with a billfish category.
I know the committee had a lot of wrangling with the rules to do, but hopefully the kinks will be worked out by next year and they will produce a stellar tournament that will grow into something big.
Deep C and WAHOONBOX sorry I didn't get to meet you guys, but you always have some cool input here. If you ever find yourselves stranded in DE give me a call. I always have room for people to stay and am ready to fish at the drop of a hat.
