    Taxidermist

I caught my first billfish on the Run-Off last year. A ~300+Lb blue.

Who should I buy a repro mount from? I'm looking for the one that's the front third of the fish coming out of the wall. Also want the hook in the roof of the mouth like it was, a horse hoo head on the hook, the monel, B/W Ilander and the actual leader that caught the fish.

someone send me in the right direction. What should I expect something like this to cost?

New Wave does good work and King's Sailfish Mounts is good too. All kinds of fish besides just sailfish. They did my striped bass for me and it turned out great.

Two places to avoid like the plague are Gray's Taxidermy in Pompano(Google it for the horror stories). I like their building on the west side of I-95. Glass mirror exterior with big fish mounts slapped to the outside.

The other plague-carrier is Bob's Trophymaster Fishmounts in Ft Pierce. They did an artificial mount of a 20 lb Mutton Snapper I'd caught over at White Sands Ridge in the Bahamas. Despite my giving them a photo, they kept getting the colors ALL wrong time after time. Finally I just grabbed the damn thing and ran out of there after the 4th screw-up and months of aggravation.
I could have done the job better with some Sharpies, blindfolded & drunk.

    Stupid question reguarding taxidermy.....

    1. Do they need the fish for best results?

    2. If not what kind of pictures/angles are best.

    3. Cost???

    Thanks, TODD

1- They don't need the fish unless it's something really out of the ordinary.

2- Pictures showing the fish the way you remember it or any distinct colors are good but not necessary if you can describe how you want it painted.

3- cost ranges from 10-12 bucks an inch. New wave is 12 but worth the extra $ (you get what you pay for)
