Has anyone ever fished here? Know anyone there to fish with?
Thanks,
Has anyone ever fished here? Know anyone there to fish with?
Thanks,
They have some good fishing up there. Prime time up there is between Thanksgiving and now. Plenty of sails and marlin. I don't pesonally know any boats there, but up in flamingo there are some good ones.

Same here, never fished with anyone out of Tamarindo but I'd highly recommend Richard Chellemi on the Gamefisher II out of Flamingo--great crew, top quality tackle and they always seemed to make the extra effort. One time we hadn't done too well all day but the bite turned on late so they were willing to stay and fish while everyone else had picked up sticks and headed home. www.gamefisher2.com. Good luck, it's a beautiful spot.
Second on the Gamefisher II. But this time of year, Richard might be fishing out of Playa de Carillo, south of Tamarindo about 1 hour or so.
If you can make the drive, and he is available, well worth it.

Fished there a few times during late March, early April. Quite a few 150-300lb blues around, a few schoolie yellowfin, but not much else. Have had at least 5shots a day with blue ones each trip.
Also Sonny on the Wetass II. Some good fishing up that way but can be REALLY REALLY windy. Great MARLIN fishing!
Neither one of those captains fishes much any more - they turn the boat over to their mates and only fish their "special" customers. Tis sad, to have booked Richard, to find out he was in the states, and I was stuck with his non-English speaking mate.
I prefer fishing with Warren Sellers on the Dog Fleet boats. About the same price as Richard, considerably less than Sonny for same size boat.
ThumsUp: they fish the same area from Quepos to Flamingo. Fred and his son have been good friends of mine for 22 years.
This past month has had freaky weather - no wind, making the run out easy.

It is good to hear they are getting the break from the Papagayos. I know they had some great fishing earlier this year. I hope it continues. There are from the area that I grew up. Used to hunt 5 min., from there house.
Thanks for the replies. Are there going to be Roosterfish around in April? If so, who is good at catching them?

When I was there several years ago '95 and '96, we were surfing instead of fishing.....THE HORROR!!!. Both years we were there, there were several operations that launched a panga from the beach to one of the many sportfishers anchored in the bay. Most of guys looked like they had good operations and were based/booked out of the restaurants and grills/bars in the area. Always came back with flags and a full box of meat day after day. This was during the dry season for the Guanacaste region. Late Feb-Early March.
