I Just listen on the radio for the Squid Nation boat. Then I haul ass to where he is. I get so close that the spreader bars are under my bow pulpit. When the tuners come up on the bars I stick um with the dart. If I get close enough I might even get a burger off of the grill. If Biills not fishing I just stay home!

Last year on the "Grill Nation" boat a few burgers ended up in the deep. It's hard to drive and cook at the same time in 6 footers. If you're fast with the gaff you might be able to get a few as they float by. They usualy slide off the grill just about the time that they are perfect.

    S.Pacific and other places

    Hi All:
Fished NORWAY last year. Worked lots of places by renting a 18-25 footer with a radio and gps. Fished right next to Fiord walls inside 5 miles for Cod and Halibut to OFF shore by myself for same fish. WARNING...WARNING...WARNING... If u go out and there is NO ONE around, U can be in deep KIMSHEE. I was lucke enough to run 9 miles to help out ANOTHER small boat OUT in the NORTH SEA who ran into trouble. The Coasties out there are ! 1). Not close .2) Seas can blow up from noything to 70MPH in 5 minue. Those waters BLOW UP FAST. 3). You can't drift around out there without survival gear. SCARY. I was lucky, I found and kept in contact with locals who took pity on one lonely ex fisherman.
Down in, or OUT, in the S.Pacific the fishing is UNTOUCHED. I fished some of the old WW11 island and found that I wanted to stay there FOREVER. The fishing was and still is BETTER than most places. WARNING...WARNING...WARNING... Getting there is a MONSTROUS problem. It takes months and months to get it done. Fishing is done in PRIMITIVE conditions. The HEALTH factor is DANGEROUS. Get inoculated for everytrhing. They have disease that they still don't have a name for. Reminded me of Vietnam.
If you can get to GUADALCANAL, Be PREPARED for a dangerous place. Go with a bunch of AUSSIES who have been there and PREPAY everything. Get out to the slot and if you can fish where the Japanese wreed ships and teh Aussie ships and our ships are sunk. The bottom fishng is out of this world.
The only people who fish these places are th locals who subsistance fish or the rubber platation owners and workers who still stay out there and fish for fun when they get the chance. The AUSSIE Gov. I hope can get you in touch with the people who can make your trip a success.
I think there is a magazine( can't remember the name) that specializes in LONG DISTANCE fishing on mother ships. Does anyone remember the name of the Mag? For me, If I ever get out there again, I would ONLY go on a mother ship.
OH, CONTINENTAL does fly out to that part of the S.Pacific. After that, local airlines(if you can call them that) will get you to the remote fishing places.
I think that Christmas Island had at one time a fishing lodge. Gosh That must have been 20 years ago. I think google or someshuch can get you more info.
Fished the CORAL SEA back in the 60's. The only other boats out there were long range Japanese experimental boats. Most of them stayed off Aussy land. Better shipping facilities. Again GOOGLE, is the way to go for fishing info. I know that there are good MOTHER SHIPS out of Australia that can be hired for a few days.
'Nuff of my musings. I looked for my old paperwork. No such luck. SWMBO tossed out all my old paperework when we moved down to Florida.
