Works pretty damn good on the long rigger bluefin bite too....![]()

OKAY....RIGHT HERE.....AFTER A MISSED STRIKE.....WHAT KEEPS THE LINE FROM POPPING OUT? IS THE MARLIN MISSING THE THING? ....OR ARE THE RUBBERBANDS STRONG ENOUGH? EVERYONE KEEPS SAYING THAT THE FISH MISSES AND HE CAN KEEP COMING BACK HERE...THIS IS THE VAGUE PART TO ME....................TALK TO US ABOUT THE "TENSION" PALEESE
I AM ASKING THESE QUESTIONS....SO THAT WHEN I DO GET BACK OUT ON THE WATER...I DON'T WASTE A RARE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE IT WORK WHEN BOSCOE DOES COME IN
AGAIN...TO ALL THOSE SHARING...THIS IS A VAGUE AND WEAK POINT FOR ME FOR I DID THIS TAGLINE THING ONE TIME BACK IN WHENEVERAND AM EAGER TO LEARN.
THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE WOLRDWIIDE PROS GETTING INVOLVED HERE! FINALLY! LOOK AEROUIND HERE....LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS WHO ARE ONBOARD HERE! SHIT!!! FIVE STAR!
AND WOW...EVEN CAPT B IS ABOARD !!! NOW I CALL THAT AWESOME........
I with you on this question BOX. If the rubberband is what is holding it in do i dare crank my roller all the way down then attatch my left short blue marlin bait with a rubberband instead of putting it through the clip and then run the rest of my dink spread like always.....would this have the same effect. It would take a little longer to change after the rubber band broke (loosening and the re tightening the clip) but if i get a blue one out of it ill do the extra 2 mins
Box the tag at least in my world isn't really a geo thing. Its anytime I run a lure off a rigger position. Learned it in late 70's when I first started playing with artificials. We don't use clips. Rubber band wrapped six or seven times around main line attached to the tag line with a snap swivel. The angle, and length of the tag line minimize any drop back. The band does the hooking...#64 for most lures sometimes double for real hogs...
I don't see any value in using them with naturals at all.... I would think getting all the drop you can get would be the desired game there...

The tag line idea actually came from commercial tuna fishermen originally, it wasn't a sports field idea and if they are used correctly are a advantage I feel personnelly, My Dad use to use them back in the 70's when we were running to and from the tuna grounds trolling around just looking for fish and the original idea was just a way of adding a larger spread to your pattern, more baits, lures bigger advantage if anyone is really interested in seeing a good set up I would suggest going down to the dock and try to get on one of the commercial trollers and pick their brain,99% of them use them and why do use suppose? As far as clips go after a zillion different release clips and rubberband I have found that the cannon offshore clip releases on my taglines are bullet proof, each to their own thou, when I mentioned in my earlier post about connecting a tag line to a tag line I should have elaborated, this second line is actually a tether connected to the rail on the side of my boat and connected to the tagline just behind the clip release and my tag line lengths straight out from the boat only run to the position of were my rods are placed!!!peace
Box--I don't use rubber bands. The tag loops (dacron loops) on the main line are attached to the rigger clip at the end of my tag line. I set this drag at 18-24 lbs, depends on how the fish have been biting....and a little change of mood maybe?? then my reel drag is about 18 lbs. THE CLIP SETS THE HOOK WHEN THE CRITTER FINALLY GETS IT OUT OF THE CLIP. When the fish takes a shot at the lure & misses the hook, it usually stays in the clip, still trolling, waiting for the blue critter to get madder & come kill it. The dacron loop is tight to the mainline, but you can still manage to move it, to make adjustments. and there is no (or little) chance that the mainline will break from the bite/hook set as it comes out of the clip.
and, my tag lines are set up so that I can pull on my rigger line to pull the attachment point lower. Here's why. Blue one on the short rigger (left rigger), thrashing at my lure, bill out of water, triangle all-over my lure, but no success. can't find the hook. I can lower the tag line so that the lure is lowered into the water a little more, just like you would on a ballyhoo that the fish is thrashing on but not capturing....etc....

Since it is more tension to get the line to pop does this stop/prevent nose jobs?
I just sat down and read everyones response, and a couple of PM's I got too.
thanks, big help.
thanks to feds ruining years of R&D for Blue Marlin dead bait fishing, we will be lure fishing in the early tournaments this summer.
after digesting all of the input, I am going to rig tags off the short rigger eye for my lure spread.
have not decided on what clips to use yet though I am real partial to Blacks.

Jay,
I can not remember the brand of the clips, but they look like blacks clips, but are red. they can crank down the drag, more than the black blacks clips.
