I had waited to see a couple episodes before posting, and now I can say I'am totally disgusted. Its unbelievable how many 50lb swords the kill. Those juvenille pups, that never even get a chance to grow up. They actually get excited about 100lb fish. Not to mention all the stuff gonig on in the back ground they dont even mention.....Like the huge dead shark in one scene thats laying on the deck of the boat, the guy cleaning a bunch of mahi, that they dont even mention, the mako shark they gaff and throw back, and the tangled mess of 800-600lb mono that is constantly being cut off, the tuna they brought in that was stone cold dead, and im sure the meat was ruined. If thats what they have slipped and put on air what arent we seeing?

we haven't got that series in the UK yet and from the sounds of it, i'm pretty glad we have n't!

I doubt you would want to see the actual, raw catch uneditted. It will make you sick. The mile long trail of two foot long 10# throwback swords floating behind the boat, the dead sharks trashed, sea turtles, billfish, etc. just trashed and thrown away. It should be shown as what is really is and the public can form their opinion from there. I've seen it first hand and I know how I feel about it. From what I saw this show is a joke.

That was Chomper on the big eye that set his line so close to the other boat. None of the other Captains care to much for him from the sounds of it. The bigeye is out of Wanchese and one of the crew members,Matt, worked on of the OI fishing fleet boats. Apparently he has the same bad reutation in NC waters too. I didn't care for the captain, he doesn't represent NC fishermen very well.

I don't think to many skippers would put up with his (Choppers) shit. He needs to go broke, he shouldn't be in the fishing business or any business for that matter. He is a first class A-hole.

Actually it wouldn't hurt my feeling if they all went broke. Sorry I just don't believe in long line killing.

I thought it was pretty funny that the only small sword they showed getting thrown back was still alive. They doubtless had dozens more thrown back that were dead. In the first episode i believe they gaffed about a 75lb sword, took the hook out, then threw it back over the side. Pretty disgusting stuff.

Big eye capt what a jackass! His whole attitude sucks! The entire show so far needs improvement. Gotta be some way to keep these guys under tighter restrictions and keep their livelihood.

The crab show is awesome as well as the fishery, but thats comparing apples to oranges with regulations and policy holders.

the crab show is awesome. I have friends in both industry and the longline thing to me is completely different. I'm not saying those longline guys are...I dont know what but bad people...HELL NO. They are just fishermen like you and me. Is what they do wrong? I think so. I commercial snapper fished out of freeport, Tx for two seasons on bandit gear. Thats right twice...I needed the money but that sure as chit don't make a spider gear(80 hooks in 6' dropped first to clear out the small ones)right. Same thing with longlines except the percentages are much worse on bycatch kill and undersize kill. It just is not right and BOX...eat the farm raised dude...Those people are raping our GOM.
