Mahi, Mahi, Mahi it was all you wanted with the Big Gaffer Dolphin..Had Ralph C and Paul down from Staten Island for the weekend.. Left the dock a 5am of course the weatherman missed the forecast but our run was only 25 miles so the S.E 15 and 3-5 ft seas didn't make for too bad of a ride out..Hit 17fathoms and found good 77 degree water put the lines in and within 2 min we had 4 knock downs. It didn't take long to fill the box and with a good grade of fish also. Paul asked about Wahoo so we caught him Wahoo, not the biggest but it still eats real well!!! We had a bunch of Billy 40 blanks onboard again so we had to put them to work on the AJ'S. We headed inshore to a small wreck and found some 50# class fish, rods worked great..If anyone is in the market for a new rod Call Billy these blanks are the Heat!!!! We couldn't just end the day with out alittle bottomfishing so we dropped the hook on a piece and Ralph was on, a nice keeper Gag Grouper to end the day plus a few shorts I think we caught 5 or 6 in an Hr as well as few Sea Bass.. Not a bad first day about 300lb of mahi, Grouper, Sea Bass and some nice AJ'S to add alittle pain to your Back..
Sundays trip had high hopes but the S.E wind didn't want to stop blowing..We were greeted again with 3-5 with a nice 6ft plus thrown in just to keep us on our toes and rain..Wind against tide all morning so it made setting up on the piece tough..We still managed to to catch fish but I had to really work at it, moving alot..Gags, American Red Snapper, Vermillion Snapper, Trigger Fish, Sea Bass, Porgies and More Mahi to round out the day it was a slow bite but we still put fish in the boat..Just want to say thanks to Ralph and Paul for making the drive down and making it a great weekend on the Swell Rider, and also to Billy 40 for let me use these great rods..If they come down one more time there not leaving...Ken
