Swell Rider NC Report..05/10
Well with the small weather window that we were given I had no choice than to take advantage of it load the boys up and head offshore for some Grouper fishing...Brought the boat home to Wrightsville Beach to take advantage of the great bottom we have down there before the summer crowd starts hitting it..Broke the inlet around 6am, no wind, long period swell in the 3 to 5 ft range with a 6 fter thrown in every now and then..Had Felix down from NY to test out some new blanks that seeker is making Billy 40 from the N.E.R.B.S these blanks are designed after the old GUSA blanks all I could say is Top of the line..
Anyway got to our first spot around 38nm from the inlet and the machine just lite up, this was a big piece of bottom we were fishing and the fish just seemed to be waiting..Not much current in the morning less than .5 knot so it made fishing real enjoyable..First 2 drops that Felix made yielded 2 American Red Snapper, that sure made for a nice way to start the day..Aside from the ARS the Porgies and Sea Bass were coming over the side as fast as you could get the gear to the bottom..As soon as the tide slacked up the bite died, made few short moves to look at some other spots picking at the fish all along, we got repositioned on the offshore part of the bottom we were fishing earlier as soon as the tide swung around the Red Grouper started to bite..Weeded threw a few short Scamps and Gags but the bigger Reds started to move in as the current picked up...Ended the day around 4:30 PM with a nice flat ride in at 30knts..Thats how we spent Mothers Day on the Swell Rider....Ken
