Well now that the Bluefin season has come to a close it's back to Gag Grouper fishing until the Yellowfin show up. Headed out Yesterday with my good friend Capt. Joe Hifko, the mans an animal when it come to catching grouper... Found that alot of colder water moved inshore were we fish, headed out of New River Inlet in the AM. and worked the ledges and rock piles between 12 and 18 miles. Fishing wasn't red hot but we found nice size Gags on every stop along with a pile of Sea bass. finished the day with about 200lb of Gags and 50 lbs of Sea Bass. It's just a matter of time before the Gags really start to fire. Maybe this SW blow is all they need. Then it's 500 to 800 lb of Gags a day.. Here's a few pic, enjoy.. Ken
Nice catch captain Ken. I hear that Joe is indeed the best. How were the dogfish inshore? Not much of a problem?
I take it there will be a commercial gag moratorium again in March and April. Will you boys switch up to reds and scamps for that time period?

Joe is the best by far. I've learn a ton from him. I fish with Joe alot through out the year when I can. We"ll start fishing reds real soon. Then I'll be heading to Hatteras at the end of March for the Yellowfin,Wahoo and Mahi slaughter. I'll fish there till the end of May then back to AB and Topsail. Ken
Captain Ken,
I know from talking with you that your glad to be back after the Groupers with captain Joe. Glad to see you guys scratched up a few. I hope the Gags fire up soon and you have a productive go at em. Thanks for the report.
