What an awesome forecast and conditions for fishing. Well I could not sleep friday night in anticipation of a beautiful day offshore.
Well tournament committee boat announced lines in at 9:00 saturday and at 9:03 we were "hooked up blue marlin". We had my sons pediatrician and his daughter on board for their first offshore adventure and the marlin must have known, for he jumped and tailwalked to add to all of the excitement. Well after grabbing the leader a couple of times and determining that the 325lb blue marlin would not meet tournament minimums we beared down on him and broke him off. After being off to a great start we felt confident there would be more......., not this time. Well on sunday my son (8yr old) went with us after hearing of our day on saturday, but we were only able to round up a few dolphins, one of which my son reeled in that weighed 22.75.
After hearing our name called out sunday morning in first place, by tournaments end we finished up in second place. My sons dolphin was good enough for 5th place in the junior angler division. I could not tell who was happier my dad with a $15,653.00 check or my son with a nice trophy and rod/reel combo.
