Tri while I have you on, alot of the guys are switching to 7 and 9 foot rods in the surf instead of the big boys. What do you think?

Never had one, I was a lineman.
Depends on the Vehicle and the sand, but down here on Assateague in my Jeep Cherokee I run about 12-15psi in 31X10.50's plus a 3.5in lift. Does me just fine.

on my wifes AWD Ford Escape, which is @ the same size, shape and weight as your jeep liberty, I run 15psi on AI wth NO issues, I've tried as much as 20psi and could feel the truck working to hard to mantian speed......if your getting stuck @17psi or so, I'd have someone check the operation of the 4WD to make sure it's working propperly, btw I've never been stuck out on the beach at any psi I've run in the Escape

You should spend some time trying differant pressures, If you have problem with 17 drop to 15 and try it. Your truck should not really work at all except in the softest of sands. As soon as it feels like the truck is working stop and let another # out. Sometimes a little goes a long way. Be real carefull going under 10 lbs and making sharp turns or going back on the hardtop without filling back up if your going to travel any distance. Get your self a couple of GOOD air gauges. Make sure all the tires are the same pressure. Start out slow and you should feel the way the truck is acting. Take your time it will all come together.
