    superglue on mono leaders

when making for a swordfish rig say on 300lbs. mono leader some of guys tie a couple of over hand knots and some wraps with rigging floss and superglue over it so it doesn't slide on the mono leader. they do this so the electalume light doesn't slide down the leader to the bait. they also can keep the light 18" or so above the bait so the fish can see the bait.

my question is do you think that superglue will weaken the mono leader?

I tie dacron loops every 100' on my main line and touch them with Zap A Gap and have never had any problems.

    TIP:
Keep your lights farther away they tend to blind the fish if they are to close.

Pliobond or Zap A Gap are better options then super glue.

Steve if you buy 70 lb wax floss. You can tie it tight enough that it wont slide and it is thick enough that it wont cut your mono. Its only holding the light. I keep the light 40' from the bait. I would recomend Pliobond if you were goign to use anything that dosent get hard it stays plioble. That is what I used to use for my wind ons.

a tight rubber band has never given me any problems............. i think this is getting over thought a little bit...Its only a glowstick, not a window sash weight.

I problem I have with wax floss is it closes up and I can't ever seem to get it open. ( just like bridling a bait - I like rubber bands from Wall Mart) But my eyes are probably not as good as yours.

On my main line I even use 170# J.B. and tie two back to back uni knots, works great.

If you tie a bunch of half hitches then slide a piece of chaffe protection on the loop and ten tie your half hitches again it will hold the loop open better. The chaffe protection goes through the giudes very smooth.I should have posted that the first time. Sorry

I agree. Use a rubber band. Its quick. Its easy. It's cheap. It'll hold. It'll come off if you need it to and you dont have to rerig anything to do it. A light is light enough that it aint gonna break the rubber band with a fish making a run.
Put your weights on a rubber band too. You want them to break and drop the weight when you hook up.
