The seas were ideal for this year’s Shockley, Off-Shore Sport-fishing tournament held by The Cape May Marlin and Tuna Club. Club member boats from throughout Cape May County participated in the event, venturing from 60 to over 100 miles into the Atlantic, targeting Tuna, Mahi and Billfish. The boat Super Crew, Captained by Don Gentilini, won the billfish portion of the event when angler Steve Benvenuti released a white marlin. This was also the first white marlin release for 2007 reported to the Cape May Marlin and Tuna Club. Winning the Tuna category was the boat Reel Steel with a 57.5 lb tuna that was landed by Rachel Linus. Taking second in the tuna category was the team on Burns Coal who brought a 56 lb tuna to the scales, followed by the Sea Splendour who finished in third place with a 52lb tuna. Several mahi-mahi were also landed and the boat Sterling II, captained by Michael Lawrence, brought home a 15lb. mahi to win that category. The boat Digger weighed in two 13lb mahi for both second and third place. The event was followed by a cookout at the Cape May Marlin and Tuna Club on Sunday when awards were presented to the winners. Upcoming tournaments include a Flounder tournament on July 28, and the annual Ladies Day tournament on August 17 & 18. Tournaments are open to all Cape May Marlin and Tuna Club Members, for more information visit www.marlinandtuna.com.
