    Cool Sucking...

Man! This sharkin season is sucking... I have yet to find real mako water anyplace. something like eight trips now. Catch one rat, see another rat and had two real good shots at pigs...
Have I zagged when I should have zigger??? I can't say for sure but starting with South Jersey Shark I have not found a spot that really felt right... that event had fair temp but green water then day two was too fast of a drift to do really well. More days on this end had fair color though not good and the the tems were off. A return to the south found water that read too warm and moderate color again. That "warm" temp though I think was a false surface reading... The brett Bailey we had fairly good color in between the ice bergs and only 60 degrees to start... Yesterday I found great temp but dirty and green... I'm growing impatient.
Each step of the way have been blue sharks and even a couple duskies but dog gone it they don't count and only leave grooves in my hands from leadering them...
Bluefish have been an issue in some places but I can usually make a couple adjustments to lose them and land on the makos. Not this year so far,,, ...
I was without online services for a few days and I look back on the sat shots and see that I really made no mistakes... It was and indeed is still looking bad. Where the temp is good the water is ugly. Where the water looks good the temp is comming up short... I am not used to sucking and it's getting to me... Even the drive by stragglers that are here have been in weird places with the exception of the one during SJ tourney (that one was right where she should have been). The others have been up on flats away from bait or structure or any reason to be there...
I cancelled todays trip because it wouldn't be right to take someones money on a "hope" that something swims by. Damnit! I'm the Deep and want to get a leg up on the competition instead of driftin and dreamin but so far nothing is falling into place to give me that edge... I'm back at it over the next few days and am praying that something changes...

Dayumm! My email has been going nuts!

Yes ther are sharks here through the summer... Can make really neat combo trips too... Troll up some tuners then soak a can of chum... And the answer is yes, I do have open dates between the marlin tournaments....

We had similar results fishing the Oc shark tourny. Most of the fleet ran south where they found decent numbers of smaller fish but we decided to run north out of IRI looking for a real fish. Thursday was unfishable due to a nasty Nor Easter and Friday was extremely rough. We pointed the Contender East and plowed our way to thresher grounds. Had a nice one on for about 5 minutes befoe the hook pulled. Drifted the area till noon then made the call to pound out to the mako grounds. Got about half way to the 19F lump and found some decent structure and water so we set up there. While setting up the slick and feeding out the first bait I hand fed a rat. We made a quick release, fish was about 80 pounds. An hour later we set the hook on a 100 pounder that made the trip home with us. Saturday we ran from the 19f lump, tea cup, and elephants trunk. did'nt see one mako the entire day. Made another trip after that to the fingers. Not one mako all day. Seems there are rats around but good fish seem few and far between.
