Little late with this report, but, it's been a hectic few days. Quick flashback...Monday around 1300 I get a call from Shawn (Crosswinds Guide Service), he's out of breath, he's screaming something about trying to hold phone, activating GoPro, multiple lines down and why in the #$%& was I not down on texoma with him?!?! Apparently Shawn had trailerd down to do some pre-fishing before taking a couple charters out, and more importantly, for his "special" group on thursday that comprised a group of kids from Camp Cavett. Long story short, 0300 the next morning, I had the truck loaded up and took the two hour ride down to lake texoma. I have fished there before, usually catching limits (10per) but mostly "unders" which are <20". I get to the ramp and we head out. Shawn has already caught some bait and we start the run. We see some top water action close to shore, but after 15 minutes and only pulling a couple 10-12" fishe we start searching. We slip into the spot he was catching fish yesterday, and we'd pull one or two, but not the big schools he'd seen before. Not happy with our bait situation, small baits, we opted to go looking for bigger, fresher baits. We slipped into a large cove, and started marking bait. Probably 10 or so throws, and tank is full of fresh Gizzard and threadfin shad. On the way out of the cove we run into Dan & Eric, campmates of Shawn. Same story, no bait, and few fish, so we give them a few bait and Shawn tells them to follow us out to the spot he marked earlier. We drop anchor on a ledge that went from 50' up to aboue 31' where we set up. While Shawn is gettin a line out to tie the two boats together, I start putting out lines...as I'm setting up the third line, the first goes down...and that was to be the theme for the next 2+ hours. Sometimes 4 out of 6 rods down at one time. Here are a couple of the first few...
In no time we had our 4 "overs" and had a hard time finding our remaining "unders" I know, poor me.Once we finished up our limit, Shawn wanted to freeline near the rocks to see if we could find a Smallmouth before heading in. Didn't find a Brownine, but, I did nail a nice "Green Perch."
Here is our big fish of the day...
And here is our four man limit...
My best, or most productive day on texoma, with added bonus of some quality fish!!!
*Edit...I did managed to catch a 4'+ Gar, which unfortunatley, I lost boat side while trying to grab the bill/beak/whatever without losing a finger.*
