Heck, just pay the cops and save the court time. Like paying a tip if you ask me. in NJ, I think they seize your boat.
...and that was his second offense within a week! You gotta be kidding me here!![]()

He was only 138 lbs over his limit. It’s not that big of deal. He was commercial fishing in an area that he was allowed to. He just got his days mixed up and underestimated his catch. What's all the fuss for. I'm sure some of you who are about to respond have kept a fish or two that you didn't use. It’s the same thing.
thats ridiculous. it should be a 5 figure crime so the operation feels the pain.
He was not fishing in an area he was supposed to. He was fishing during a closed season and they confiscated over 3 tons of fish. I don't know why he was only charged with 138#'s over his 1900# quota for the year!!!
"Natural Resources Police seized nearly 3 tons of striped bass Sunday from a trawler and charged a Dorchester County seafood processor with illegal commercial fishing in Maryland waters. It was the second time in less than a week"The guy gambled on not getting caught and he did. I think the fine was so low he really didn't care about getting caught. Like I said before just the cost of doing business. The catch was sold and the money is sitting in escrow. They pay their fine they get their catch money."for fishing between 6 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday, when the season is closed."

True I know there are a lot of guys that go beyond the fence, but these guys were blatantly towing during a closed season on Little Gull shoal. I mean come on you could see them from the coast guard station.Did they really think they weren't going to get caught? It was a business decision pure and simple. $250 fine made it worth their while to run down from cape may and make a few extra bucks.
The thing that gets me is let a guy bring in an ounce over their limit of scallops and they get slammed with tens of thousands of dollars in fines. They may do it once but you don't see a lot of guys going over their daily quotas or fishing in closed areas for scallops. There is no rhyme or reason to the fines imposed???![]()

First time he was cited for 168lbs over their seasonal allocation (i agree that its not a huge deal, could be blamed on poor log books) date: December 30th (apearently he has a 1,900-pound seasonal allocation of striped bass, or rockfish)
However,
The second time, Sunday January 4th they were again cited. But this time they were fishing out of season, in possession of 3000 lbs of fish. Over their seasonal allocation (even if a new season begins Jan 1st) and fishing on the weekends when they are not allowed to fish.
Seams pretty blatant to me!
Yes, recreational fisherman also catch fish out of season and over their limits (just check out Hanover Street Bridge in Baltimore City in the spring when those boys keep everything they catch), and i agree with hitting them as well.
The problem in Maryland is the court system. The legislators wont change the laws for minimums fines /sentences due to the fact that the judges don't want them telling them how to do their jobs. And the judges are just too damn liberal and lenient!
