    Stone Harbor Marlin Invitational Report

Saturday and Sunday I fished the Stone Harbor Invitational, on the Intuition. on Saturday it was just Tom Kilareski Sr and Jr and myself, we started the day at the Baltimore on the lobster pots and got a load of mahi, then trolled out and got two more in the middle of nowhere, biggest one 15lbs. Next we had a knockdown and I got to see my first blue marlin, up close and personal. We snuck up on him before he went ballistic and got the touch, and had one release in the bag. We trolled the remainder of the day with nothing, the water was dead, no blue water anywhere.
Sunday, same as the first, mahi in the morning, but now joined by Dave and Joe. We found a break later in the morning, and had a knockdown on the 50 and went to work, no one saw the fish take the bait but it was running fast, we cleared rods and while I was getting the belt on Tom Jr, the long rigger went down, so Dave grabbed that, once again the bait was taken on the sly, we were'nt sure what it was. Tom Sr decided to chase the fish on the 50 figuring our chances were better at the release, so Dave just got comfortable and waited( Oh yeah Dave fish hit a dink on a TLD25 ) We chased the first fish and he jumped and yes it was a Blue and with some great boat handling by Tom we got the release. Now Tom jr. went to leadering and went to the bridge to try and get some shots. Well after a long fight we got Dave's fish to leader and started yelling and screamin so loud they heard us two canyons away
After a quick clean up we shot up to the banquet, only to be suprised taht we took second place Also getting Outsanding Catch Award for the double header. Congrat to George and Chumstain on Olivia Grace for winning the event with four whites. The Stone Harbor Yacht Club and Jamie Diller ran an incredible event and thank you!

Aha! Now you can relate to why I get so excited talking about the blue ones. So happy that finally you have tasted the real master of the blue water world. You still have not snatched the pebble from my hand but you are well into your learning Chuckysan.

BTW... I'll be there late morning tomorrow for surprise inspection of bait freezer...

Chuck congratulations on a great two days. To double up on the blues must have been a real thrill. The pictures were great and it does not look like it was as sloppy out there as I thought it would be. Go for it, if you are fishing tomarrow good luck and take a swim when the heat drives you out of the cockpit.
