Still Think'n Rudee Inlet Yellow Fin !

Great day, great crew, great fishing.....

I had Otter, Colt and Mike (KAPOC) onboard yesterday...we had one guy bail on us in the morning, that's ok, they won't be asked again...we pulled out of Rudee at 0420 and pointed the yellow boat south and east. Our target, the triple 000's at 500 fathoms where there was what remained of the pretty awesome spinoff that had been slowly deteriorating all day on Friday. we pulled the sticks back around 0715 or so and got the spread out....had big spreader bar with Green machine on the shotgun, G&H sea witches on the long riggers, Islanders on the short riggers, Tiki Bars on the flats and a cedar plug in the wash....about 0735 we had 4 lines go down, 2 stay right....1 of my Tiki Bars breaks off (my fault) and get one 25 pound Blue Fin in the boat....we release that one, hoping for a bigger fish....spread out again and I troll through my mark, 5 lines go down, 3 stay tight, release 3 more Blue Fin waiting for a bigger fish (Greedy !). spread out again, 4 lines go down, 1 fish in the boat, released..next round 4 lines down, 3 more in the boat and again, we release....I said at this point the next one in the boat is going to be chilled...of course, once I said that no more of those little Blue Fin wanted anything to do with my spread !...hahahaha.....lesson learned, take your first fish and be happy about it when you're not sure what's around...

water temps were around 63 degree's and was a pretty mixed Blue/green clear color..lots of bait around and lots of good marks...but we were tired of using Ballyho on those small BFT so we pointed Still THink'n east hoping to find some yellows !...and we went east, and east and east and east until we found 68 degree Cobalt blue water at the 100 line in about 1200 fathoms and said this is the spot...spread out and not much happening....around 1145 as we're joking and Otter is telling some pretty funny stories as he often does when it is slow we have 5 lines go down....4 stay tight and we're prett sure these are YFT...clear the rest of the spread after ensuring we got what we were going to get and start working the fish...Colts fish is up first and Mike stick this one....Colt puts that rod down and picks up the freight train shotgun and goes to work on that one...Nice class YFT in the boat...Otter's fish is next to come alongside and I stick this one...another 40 - 50 pound class YFT in the box..Mike's fish is next up to bat and he gets a pointy Gaff in the head for his efforts..3 in the boat, now Colt's second YFT is right there and Otter gets a great Gaff shot on this one...4 YFT in the kill box....

pulled lines around 2 as we were a long way from Rudee...as I'm running in across the Cigar area, see three big ass Fin Back Whales and thousands of two tones and birds working slicks all over the place...we pull back the sticks and put out a green machine just to see what's happing....right away this rod comes tight and colt gets about a 40 inch Blue Fish for a release citation....we work the area a bit more but no more bites...while trolling KAPOC is on my bow hanging over the side watching the two tones eyeball the face on my boat. One of the dolphin hung around right under the bow long enough for him to put the porpoise, something he's wanted to do for a long time, but being a Charter Captain often does not get the chance.

great day as I said earlier, Glad we could get KAPOC out for some fun before he leaves for Iraq sometime next week....not much photography as we were a bit busy and short crew but here you go...Bob

Nice work Bob. My bud fished with Trax...sounds like they got 4 or 5 YFT and a nice 190lb BFT and released one more.

I'm hoping we get something from triple 000's north. I don't have the range to go much further than that.
    Tight lines,

They're coming Glenn...we got into the BFT at the 000's, and the YFT at the 100 line but deep...watch that water coming off the stream pushing into the Norfolk, when that water gets close, it's gonna be on like donkey kong !.....

Here's the only video we got yesterday...wish we would have gotten more but we were busy....Bob

I hear ya Bob! My boat is "right"...and ready to go. I have a lot of work travel coming up so I'm hoping to get in some fishing real soon. I'm dying to hear some clips pop and drags scream. This has been the longest fishing layoff for me in 10 years
    Tight lines,

    Glenn
