star drag reels with circle hooks
Yesterday I went fishing with live bait and circle hooks. I only have star drag reels so I set the reel to the lightest drag and once I had a strike I started tightening the drag. I lost a lot of fish doing that since even if you have the reel in the lightest drag there is still some. Then I switch to trolling with free spool and holding the line in the reel with my thumb (And a glove of course) and had the drag preseted at a medium drag. Once the fish hit I would let the fish take the bait and then turn the lever up (star drag remember) and the fish would hook up. What is the best way to use circle hooks with star drag reels?

buy som elever drags. Seriously though, if you have a way that works, go for it. Also, need a little more information? Are you using outriggers? If so you can put the reel in free spool and twist the line in the clips.

I think Admin is going to let me have this space
If you're fishing from a dead boat, not trolling, put the clicker on with the reel in free spool. If you're trolling, I think you're probably going to have to go lever drag.
What are you fishing for?

Got fish
Free spool with the clicker on is what I do also. Advance the drag as needed to keep the line from letting out in trolling applications with the clicker on.
