    St Lucie Dolphin

Went out of St. Lucie this morning. Seas were flat, found a weed line NE of the inlet in 180 ft. Doubled up on Bonita early on, then followed a large Hammerhead shark for a while. Finally we had a nice Dolphin on. Had a chance at a second but it was not to be. Then after a while we had a small king skyrocket on the long rigger. Brought him to the boat and let him go. We then ran in to Pecks lake and Chummed up several Lane Snapper (6), 1 large Spanish Mackerel and 4 Bluefish. Forgot to take a lot of pics so here is the Dolphin and the Pelicans beggin for scraps…

Good catch! Did you try slow trolling live bait around that weedline? I can't wait till the big mahi show up in May!

We Trolled at 5-6 all day. We were working on adjusting our spread and changing up rigger lengths to see how it produced. The Dolphin, 1 bonita and the King were all on the Riggers today. We trolled the riggers short and the flats a litttle longer, normally it is the opposite for us. Then Blue/pink small islander and all pink sea witch was the bait of choice for these fish today.

You definitely cover a lot more water pulling the artificial and dead stuff. The mahi this time of year tend to be in small schools, that is why I asked if you pulled any live bait. When you get a mahi on tossing out a few swimmers can pull up his buddies and make them stupid. Don't forget to pull a chin weighted dink bally on one of your flats, that is a sailfish killer up your way.

Not a bad day for the dead of winter! Pretty work fellers. The tip on the livies to keep the bright ones behind the boat is a good one. They get silly and would bite a treble hook on a wrench!
