    SST Charts

What does everyone use? What would you recommend? I only know of a few: Roffs, Terrafin, Offshoresatelliteservices.. Of course there is the free one from Rutgers but its a guessing game where they breaks line up on the charts and if there are clouds for a few days you don't get good readings.

If you have a good quality chart saved as an image file on your computer it should be possible for you to work with the Rutgers images using a program like Globalmapper so that it overlays on your chart, which should help locate areas of temperature change more precisely. The SST information will inevitably be a little different to the actual situation on the water because that info could be hours old, and the movement of the eddies or current filaments that you're looking for can be pretty dynamic. So unless you have a very recent image it's best to use the info you have as a guide rather than expect to arrive at the exact location of the temperature edge or whatever. If you can't get a good shot thanks to cloud etc go back to the latest possible "good" image and check current direction (I think Rutgers has this info as well) which may give you some clues as to where the bit of water you're after may have moved. It's a bit of work to be sure but in my area we have to rely on free SST services and still find them very useful.

Last year we used Roff"s. Yes it is expensive but worth it IMO. Much more detail than the "FREE" ones which makes it the cost. Also it gives you within 12hours of accuracy. In addition pin points how long the bait was in the area, days. I would do it again.
