Monday fished in 50 fathoms north of the washington. First bite was a big dolphin. Definetly a money fish but I had no idea it was that big. Being a marlin tournament we cracked down on the drag and horsed it in. I decided not to clear any lines or dredges cause it would take too long to reset. When the fish got to the boat I realized I made a mistake. The fish was over 30 and went ballistic at the boat and got wrapped in the dredge and broke off. Oh well.
Next came the tunas. We got ambushed by bigger yellowfin. We tried to pull in the dinks and let them have at the teasers for a while but one dink rod got ate. Cranked down on the drag but the fish wouldn't break off. got it to the boat and broke it off. Go figure, when you want tuna, they don't cooperate. When you want marlin you get crushed by tunas.
Next came a huge tail swirls and the 80 fished in the short rigger ilander pro behind the teaser starts smoking. Fish charges the boat and she looks big. After some nifty boat manuerving in rough seas we get the fish to the boat. Luckily she cooperated and we were able to get a good measurement. Unfortunetly she was only 99 inches. we releases her unharmed.
45 minutes later comes another blue one piling on the right short rigger ilander pro fished behind the teaser. This time he came clear out of the water and practically landed on the bait. The little blue starts smoking the 80 and we try to give it to nico but on this rare ocassion he tells us he is too sick to work the fish. So I got the rod for the second time. The fish was a bit fiestier then the first one but quite a bit smaller. Got this fish to the boat in about 20 minutes and got a quick relase.
Day two was much less eventful. Did find the bait until about 2 pm and then got ambushed by the tunas. pulled the baits and waited for them to go away. put the baits back out and the middle bait starts screaming with a tunafish. Fish pops off and that was our day. One day left. Good Luck to everyone fishing.
