Any one have any tips on fishing the susquehanna flats for rock. I have a shaolow water duck boat and kayaks would love to get in on some skinny water rock, any advice???
Live bait is always the best. Next are jigs in chartreuse, is what I use. Shad jigs, or a jig in resemblance to bait fish. Then poppers in blue/white, chrome, like a zook, works also. Most are home made or buy locally near the flats in north east, wally world...etc...The tide turns them on and turns them off like a light switch. If heavy spring rain muddies up the area.....look for clean water on the south channel end fast.....after a day of mud/silt washing thru, stay home till it clears. Grab the second licence and fish the bridges up inside the river. Also many a day the flats are windy.....shoot up the river and it is tolerable in that area. The river is often over looked by many fishing rock. Large bass, small mouth bass, hybrid bass, large perch are there always. Perch make a great live bait, and last longer than the herring or shad. Good luck. Living right in the flats area is wonderful. You boat is the perfect size. When we fished in the river, we always trolled first. Diving craw fish in red black will score the smallies. We let them all swim free after a pic. They are to much fun to catch, over and over....Troll right close to the big rocks....and hold on.. Beautiful river in the lower end.......flat
