    Spooling reels with Braid Question?

Gonna spool some Penn Int'l. 50s with 100 lb. PowerPro. My question is whether or not it is necessary to spool monofilament on first, then stack the braid on top of that. I have heard different opinions on the matter and just wanted some feedback.

    Thanks

    No

    Matt:

No need what-so-ever. In my opinion, that entirely defeats the purpose.

We spool our 16VSX's with Diamond, and then a mono top shot. Works great.

    That depends...
While I'm no expert I have to disagree. I've seen braid loaded on the spoll to only get wet during use and the whole spool of braid slides as one. I load a base of mono followed by braid and that how I've done my 50's.
    My 2 cents.

If your reels have a starting "tit", sorry don't know what else to call it, that is all you need. If not, you can also but some tape on the spool to give the braid something to bite into.

power pro comes with special tape now you put on the reel and the power pro bits the tape and will never spin . that was a problem back in the day tape is in the package or the pro shop will install the tape when they spool it

Use double sided tape on the spool... then braid... then topshot
