    Splash bars...anyone want to share their experiences?

    Thinking about purchasing some splash bars with the purpose of being able to position them further back in the spread vs traditional bars. My understanding is the bird up front gives them more lift thus allowing you to better adjust their position when fishing in a small boat.

    I have run the traditional bars and I am trying to determine if they are worth the price to add to the spread. Sometimes the fish don't like the stuff further from the boat.

    I like the little splash bars rigged with small moldcraft squids or small shell squids. Capt. Joe on the Hard Head turned me on to 2 color combos that we have dubbed the The Green Meanie and the Pink Mofo. Yellowfin killers, and also good for bft's.

    Buying a splash bar will give some floatation and let you set it further back like you want. Another option is to simply stabilize your bar so it won't cart-wheel. Most of my bars are set up like that.

    Rig your bar like you normally would. Then, run a center leader from the center loop of the bar forward about 18 inches or so and put a stainless ring there in front of the bar. From the stainless ring, run stabilizer leaders to the two ends of the bar, forming a triangle with the bar and the 2 stabilizer leaders. Then clip your snap swivel to the stainless ring and drag it as far back as you like. The stabilizers to the ends of the bar keep it from cartwheeling and you can run it close or far.

    I put a little slack in the two side stabilizer leaders so the bar can take a slight bowed profile when pulled.

    The productivity of Splash/Bars™ is the best kept secret in the sport. Rigged with a stinger bait or as a teaser, they catch fish and they raise fish like nothing else you could pull in a spread. And!!.....The number one reason they are not as popular as they should be is because the boats that are consistently catching with them will not tell anyone else.

    I have spoken to numerous fishermen that pull them and without a doubt they will out perform anything else they have in the spread, time after time. Do they spread the word? No way.

    We produce some of the finest titanium spreader bars offered today and ship hundreds of them each year, but a Splash/Bar™ will out perform any conventional spreader bar, even ours. That may be a bold statement but it’s true.

    Splash/Bars™ are easy to pull, light weight and can be run from any position. They will not “walk” or “crab” thru the water and the bar is kept where it should be, on the surface.

    If you haven’t tried a Splash/Bar™ you might want to start looking into them.

    Radiater,

    They definitely can add something to your spread. Like you said, sometimes the fish don't go after things that are way back in the spread....but then again sometimes they do. One thing that is really nice about them is that you can drop them way back and experiment with them a bit- it's just something to add to the mix.

    I'm not sure where you fish, but if it is the Northeast at all, you may want to check out Offshore Innovations (a SFC sponsor)- they have a green machine bird bar that produces very well up here.

    Good luck!

    serious commotion

    Hey R;
    If you get a chance go to www.g-teklures.com go to the media page and load the movie. These bars put out one helluva commotion. By the way they are also weedless, they float, can be trolled at any speed and a wide range of sea conditions. We did very well with them last season. Give me a call if you want (203)240-0121. Regards, Marty

    Hands down the splash bar from chuck of tournament cable is the best there is. Ran it all last year in the middle of the spread and day in and day out it caught fish. One as a teaser and 2 as another hookbait rod. I'm not just saying this because i've heard I ran it first hand and ran it over 40 times last year
